Have you ever looked at a handbag in a shop, and wished you could just make one for yourself? Or perhaps you've got as far as buying a pattern, but have found yourself bamboozled by all the new terminology and tools you will need?
In this new introduction to bag making course, we'll look at some of the basics of making your own bags from scratch, including suitable fabrics, interfacings, stabilisers and hardware. We will look at what you might need to consider before making a bag on your domestic sewing machine, and look at useful tricks and workarounds to be able to handle thick seams and tricky fabrics on even basic sewing machines.
At the end of the four week course, you should be heading home with your own handmade crossbody bag, ready to show it off to everyone you meet! But just a word of warning: bag making is highly addictive!
For this class, you will already need a basic knowledge of how to use your sewing machine. If you have already completed one of my beginners' courses, or have made a few basic things on your sewing machine, but would like to learn some new techniques, then this course could be for you! You will need to bring your own sewing machine to the classes, unless you know how to use a machine but don't currently have access to one, in which case machine hire is available on request.
